Headed to a protest?
Regulate first. Set aside 15 minutes for some yoga:
Metta: May I (my community, my perceived enemies, all sentient beings) be safe. May we all have the causes of happiness. May we all enjoy the conditions of justice. May we all be love. May we all know freedom.
Breath awareness: Ujayi breath, box breathing, paying attention to pauses, alternate nostril breathing, moon channel breathing—whatever feels centering to you.
Chant if it's in your practice: Lokaha Samastaha Sukhino Bhavantu. So Hum. Find something centering for you. Om Gum Ganapataye Namaha - invoking the remover of obstacles, Ganesh.
Asana: cat-dog, sacral pumps, plank waves, Sun Salutations, Trees, Squats, yin forward folds or squats. Savasana. What feels grounding and centering for you?
Invert - change your perspective.
When you get there - stop to notice your breath frequently. Feel your rib cage ride your breath. Your nervous system regulation is catching.
If others would like to join you, share your favorite simple standing poses with them. Show them the Ujayi breath—the power of one breath with 360-degree awareness.
Practice situational awareness. Listen to your spidey senses. Listen to those you trust.
All of this supports us in responding, not reacting.
May all beings be safe. May we recognize and support one another's humanity. May we embody presence and the joy that overflows from it. Ride free, citizens!
